Good Thoughts

Good people sacrifice their personal interests and purify the atmosphere of their environment. They are like an incense stick that goes on burning and radiating fragrance to everyone who comes close to them, even while burning themselves out. One who always thinks of others, of helping others, harboring sacred feelings in mind, will be improving day after day. A person endowed with sacred qualities can be compared to a man who builds a wall. The man who builds a wall will continuously climb up and he will never climb down. On the other hand, individuals who are always causing trouble harm and hurt to others, who are jealous of the prosperity of others, can be compared to the persons who are digging a well. The persons engaged in digging a well will continuously descend lower and lower while the persons who are building a wall will ascend higher and higher.

Man always becomes good or bad by the company he keeps. If therefore, we get into sacred company, we will acquire sacred qualities. If we look at a snake at any place, we regard it as harmful and we try to kill it. But if the same snake is in the company of Easwara [God], we begin to worship it and respect it because of the company it keeps. Thus, the company we keep determines whether we go up or down. Good company results in a calm and peaceful life.

Your real companions—from whom you derive the maximum good—are those who talk and discourse about the Lord, about truth, about the service of others, and about love that considers all as equal. Association with such people is certainly association with sadhus [holy/wise men], for these are the real sadhus.

Through good thoughts and holy ideas only will one will become a sadhu. By sadhu, it is not meant one who dons a saffron robe and has a clean shaven head and wears Rudraksha-malas [rosaries] on his neck. Sadhu really means one who is filled with holy ideas, who has become a ‘Sathya Sankalpa Swarupa’—embodiment of all pure and holy ideas.

All that you see is the reflection of what is inside you. If you call a person bad, it is the bad in you being reflected in him. It has got nothing to do with him. Good and bad are but reflections of your inner being. Never consider them as separate from you. Good thoughts are the source of good vibrations. If your inner being is full of love, the same principle of love will find manifestation in your speech and actions. When you have sacred thoughts, you will become a divine person.
