Vedas
“A regular study of the Vedas [scriptures] and the practice of their teachings confer all forms of wealth. The Vedas are a gift of God for the welfare of the entire humanity. The Vedas make no distinction on the basis of religion, caste or nationality. The Veda mantras can be chanted by one and all.
It is Swami’s wish that the Vedas spread to every country so that every human being irrespective of religion, caste, or nationality learn and chant them.”
Sathya Sai Baba-Ati Rudra Maha Yajña, August 2006
“The Vedas seek to promote good thoughts, eliminate ideas of evil, and help mankind to lead a good life. Hence, they have to be cherished and fostered. If mankind follows the injunctions given in the Vedas, they will be freed from all afflictions. Most of our troubles have arisen because we have forgotten the Vedas.”
Sathya Sai Speaks, vol. 20, Ch. 23
“Even if you cannot chant the Vedas, if you only listen to the sounds with devotion, they will elevate you to a higher level. Though the child does not know the meaning of the lullaby sung by the mother, it is induced to sleep hearing the tune. Similarly, listening to the chanting of the Vedas with undivided attention, will give you immense benefits. The hymns of the Vedas constitute the cosmic sound (nāda brahman) which is highly potent.”
Sathya Sai Baba, Discourse on 18 October 1993
“Sound is the very core of the Vedas. Sound is associated with harmony and melody, hence, the Vedas have to be heard and ecstasy derived therefrom. It is not to be analysed, commented upon, and judged. This is the reason why the Veda is called Śṛti (that which is heard). Through listening alone to its recital, the awareness of the Atma and of the bliss it confers can be earned. The bliss thus acquired manifests in words and deeds that confer bliss all around.”
Sathya Sai Vahini, Ch. 22
“The Vedas are the root of dharma [righteousness]. If they are injured, the tree will die. The Vedas transmute all activity into worship of the Supreme and save man from unending desire and inexplicable sorrow. They give ananda [bliss] and shanti [peace], that is lasting and sustaining.”
“I have come to instruct all in the essence of the Vedas. I have come to shower on all, this precious gift; to protect and preserve the ancient wisdom, the Sanathana Dharma [eternal path].”
