Swami’s Inscrutable Arithmetic: An Easwaramma Day Experience

Swami’s miracles are a manifestation of His love; they help strengthen our faith and reinforce our trust in Him. Faith and trust in Him help us in our spiritual progress.

The Sathya Sai Baba Center of Massachusetts decided to observe Easwaramma Day this Year as Mothers’ Seva Day. For this Program, we selected a youth correction center where we have an on-going project. Mothers from the Sathya Sai Baba Center decided to bring food, clothing, and love to the inmates. This being springtime, we were advised that the young ones would appreciate T-shirts if they were new. We Pondered over the proposal. The number given to us was 35.

Around this time in Boston, Phyllis Krystal conducted a workshop on meditation. There we saw Dr. Virginia D. Harper, a Chiropractor from Amherst, MA, spreading out a bunch of T-shlrts for display. On enquiry we found that they were for sale. When we mentioned to her the purpose for which we wanted to buy them in bulk, she offered them as a gift, gratis. She picked up two handfuls of them, put them in a shopping bag, and said they would be about 35. Oh counting later, we found that they were l7. We Prayed to Swami for help, for there was no time to go out shopping for more.

On May 6, Easwaramma Day, when we visited the youth correction center, the lady in charge said, “There are 15 boys now, three more will join later.” Still, we would be one T-shirt short.  Our prayers continued. Finally, for mysterious reasons, only two more boys showed up; one other was not well. Dr. Harper did not count the T-shirts, but Swami did a correct count. We were amazed by and pleased with Swami’s help. Our faith surged. Easwaramma Day of 1995 became a memorable day for the mothers who participated. Their experience of Swami’s grace made Mother’s Seva Day glow like gold.
