Swami’s Gentle Reminders

Often in our daily lives we take Swami for granted.  Our minds are caught in the constant movement of time. Our thoughts are easily distracted by the vision before our eyes, the sounds we hear, the way we feel, the weather, etc., etc.  We have read many Sai texts and we know He is always there, guiding us and guarding us… but how aware are we or do we even remember that He is with us?

Photo of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai BabaEvery morning, the very first thing that I do is to pray to Swami and offer my gratitude for His divine blessings.  Every day, my eyes feast on His words of wisdom as my fingers type to upload His texts online.  His handsome face is constantly appearing before me as I engage in creating His graphic art. His sweet motherly advice rings in my ears as I trudge through the daily encounters with the physical world.  And my lips will be singing His beautiful bhajans or chanting mantras as I walk around in day-to-day activities. Yet, despite all this, there are many occasions when I have questioned myself whether I am truly carrying Him in my heart or if Swami is at all with me.

As a typical habit, my daily work begins with replying to emails that were sent to me during the previous night.  This morning, in the midst of answering one question, I got up and walked to my bookshelf to look for the book “Sai Darshan.”  There were many piles of books on the bookshelf, arranged closely together as I had run out of space to store my fast-growing collection of spiritual books.

So, I stood there whispering quietly to myself, “Hmmm… how am I going to find that book?”  Without much thought, I randomly picked up one of the piles of books to begin my search, but before I could take a step further, the books went tumbling down onto the floor.  There were only a few books left in my hand and the book that was right at the top was “Sai Darshan.”

I was caught in a pleasant surprise, and instantly the thought came to me that Swami had located the book for me.  My lips quickly whispered, “Thank you, Swami!”  The joyous feeling of experiencing His Omnipresence then stayed with me throughout the day.

We do not need to look for miracles to know that He is with us.  Our gracious Lord will send us little ‘gentle reminders’ occasionally.
